Demography Matters

Demography matters for every human's life from birth to death. Geographically; every region, locality, and community has its different problems, prospects, and developmental constraints. It can’t be possible to initiate and implement appropriate strategies into action if the institutions are not well aware of the demographic composition and components of such area. The community may not have an equal share of children, youth, adults, and/or aged to males and females proportion. We are the ones who first examine and analyse the issue specifically before moving on to the scope for possible intervention. As the share of the child population reducing, the aged population is increasing, but we can’t ignore those who are in between.

Sexual & Reproductive Health

Within the ambit of sexual and reproductive health other than an issue of family planning, maternal and child health remained at the center. As every individual has the right to make their own choices about their SRH, access, and utilization of maternal & child healthcare services are a major catalyst in improving health and reducing the risk of fatality and mortality. The various interventions remained transformational in delivering services and have pushed the government concern to provide quality and timely services to everyone. But still, less awareness and sensitization among the poor, marginalised and the less accessible areas where the gap exists, we are working for such cause with a prime focus on maternal and child health.

Health, Nutrition & Well Being

Health is a broader concept that encapsulates physical, mental, and social well-being; Ujjwal is putting consistent effort into achieving it. With the epidemiological transition, changing disease dynamics is a concern for the healthy population. NCDs are on the increase although marginalised sections still have a high prevalence of communicable diseases. Along with this, the high prevalence of malnutrition and increasing obesity are other concerns. Hence, we at Ujjwal are consistently engaged with the community in pushing promotive and preventive care. We work with rural, poor, marginalised and vulnerable populations to improve health, nutrition to disease prevention concerned for women, children, young to elderly for healthy well-being.

Education, Employment & Income

Education as a basic human right fosters human development through enhancing capability and contributing to human capital formation other than better skilful opportunities and earnings. Out of school and drop out at primary and higher levels remained major concerns for policy and programme. These prevailing contexts push Ujjwal to work at two levels- first at the primary level and another at the level of higher education. Hence, we are proving study-supporting kits needed on regular basis to every student. Soft skills, skilful training and counselling are initiated for students in higher education. It enhances the capacity to grab the opportunity and excel professionally in the competitive domain of their specialization.

Gender & Development

Gender and development remained at the center from both equality and equity in policy domain. The development paradigm pushed the concern of gender equity and empowering women with interest in promoting gender equality through developmental intervention. The concern remained on addressing gaps on most measures of economic opportunity to outcomes indicators. Historically women remained in a distinctively disadvantageous position. This ranges from education, health, nutrition, employment, and income to poverty alleviation. Hence, we at Ujjwal push gender in the development framework and consistently work on equal rights and opportunities which help children to fulfil their potential and reduce inequality in the setting where we work.
